To Quit or To Stick

Assalamualaikum...

Since we meet 16 years ago, Hasif is my confidant. He listen, he gives advice when it deems neccesary and most of the time, just brave his shoulder for a return of hours - crying, nagging, scolding and cursing.

Most of the time than not, he wont be interfering, especially when it involves my working or my tales of career (if the ambition is still there 😌 ). And truthfully, these past 4 years was not and still helping and worth of telling. Surface, I hit the aim and delivered as expected, getting recognitions and all, but..

am struggling in silence. a real struggle.

and it does affecting my support system as well. And deterioriting my health. Visits to hospitals, almost a year of unpaid leave, sudden change of emotions and building wall around me ONLY to deliver the expectations and not socializing with the rest (it HURTS when you have people as your middle name).

Not a word to my management. They care. For sure. If I spilled the bean to right people. 

But I chose not. Yet.

Hence today, we went for our regular visit to bookstore. Instead of the latest Sophie Kinsella, he bought me this:

With a stern message : Please read.

Yes, I do. And read (and sleep 2 times in between and snack 3 times). And I got the message. Clearly.I will Hasif. Do the neccesary. Promise.

For you out there, try get a copy of this book. It wont direct you to make the decision, but will definitely guide you to think of your options and to weight every possible ways that may not be acceptable by norm, but may actually the only thing that you deserve and want to have in your life.

Playing hide-and-seek with MAS

Assalamualaikum...

I have this love-hate relationship with airlines. Either the plane will choose to leave me behind, or my luggages choose to dissapear or simply the airlines changed their flite time-which-are-not-so-accomodating-for-me *read between the line please*  haha.

And what happens today, are just the normal series of event. Done with meetings, check my flite time, and tadaaaaaaaa....instead of 6.30PM today, I had stupidly chose 6.30AM tomorrow. I dont mind staying back for one night, thing is I have a scheduled-VVIP-meeting tomorrow at 8AM. 

So..again, the routine. Calling up to Airline..rushing back to hotel..and reach 3 hours earlier at the airport to change the ticket.

And am again, just glad I fly with Malaysia Airlines (MAS). I flew with several airlines before, in first class, business and also economy, and frankly, the service from MAS is still the best. 

Why?

- I don't have to worry AT ALL should there is any incidence like this.

- If I missed the flite, charges is RM106 to catch the later flight (based on availability) and no additional pay for price differences.

- If I want to catch the earlier flite, charges is RM53 at the MAS office or RM106 thru online call to customer service.

- Should I wish to travel for shopping, extra luggage is not a nightmare. RM30kg is easily mine for economy and I still can have a hand carry. I remembered flying with 1 low fees carrier, and got charged for extra size of bag eventhough its weight less than the permissible limit. And at the drop bag counter, an extra of 1 - 5 kgs, normally MAS's staff will give an exception, but not for that low fees carrier.

- When my luggage MIA in Mozambique, MAS took the effort to locate eventhough the responsible party should be South Africa Airlines - the connecting flite. And they compensated me with extra Enrich miles when the effort is unsuccessfull (I still cried over the limited edition Sophie Kinsella set).

Ok. Should stop. Else, I will have to write each of the incidence for the past 20 years of my life. Haha.

Still, I could not stop laughing when I received this for the receipt.

MAS. Please. Invest on something more uptodate machine please. I used this when I joined my first company and that was a decade before. And you should consider the paper usage ok? HAHHAAH

Hebat ke Keje?

Assalamualaikum...

Selalu kan, bila orang tanya kerja mana dan selepas dapat jawapan, mesti sambungan seterusnya adalah:

'wah..hebatlah. bonus masyukkkkk'

'pergh...bagus2. gaji tinggi tu.

A normal stigma from public. Sampai makcik mertua (haha..ini complicated. Somi sexy saya masa kecil dijaga oleh adik bapa mertua saya. Jadi secara tak lansung dorang lagi rapat. Dan automatik juga, saya ada 2 mak mertua. Paham tak?). Makcik @ Tok Cik, masa mula-mula saya kawin, cara dia perkenalkan saya, ha....ini kerja xxxx. Pastu asal ada jiran lain cerita anak menantu dorang kerja apa, tok cik akan lagi up pasal kitorg. Hahahahaha. 

Hakikat sebenar, yang orang tak nampak dan tak tahu.

Sebanyak mana gaji dan kemudahan diberi, sebab nak commensurate dengan lelah yang diperah. Masuk kerja jam 8 AM, keluar kerja 10PM tu dah biasa. Balik rumah, pas mandi bagi anak2 tidur, sambung balik bukak laptop. Itu tak kira lagi masuk kerja hari cuti. And no, kami tak ada OT.

So, kerja mana2 sama. Series. Nampak je indah. Yang penting, ada kerja. Buat dengan amanah. Kalau tak kat dunia, di akhirat Allah balas.

Really dude????!!! Seriously they did thought you this at school? Sick.

For my dearest adik-adik (anak2) di luar sana, let me share the basic principle of writing a letter / email / cover note.

1. Always start with a proper salutation.

That's all. Its simple. You don't need to share your grandparents stories but do limit yourself for any hipster lingo. Hello, they dont need your LOL, GTG etc.

Ayam Lemak Cili Padi lagi Murah dari Daun Hijau

Assalamualaikum..

Jangan tanya kenapa kitorang bertambah gebu dari hari ke hari. Mahal kot kos makanan sihat ni.

Contoh:

Ini untuk lunch harini. My favorite combination actually. Ada teh hijau, buah nenas (teringinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nak makan nenas bangkok!!!) dan brokoli + tuna.

Hagak2 berapa?

Teh RM2.65 (kalau dalam KLCC, Isetan je paling murah, lain RM3), Nenas RM2.50 (sama gak, Isetan paling murah, jgn beli di Cold Storage atau Food Court) dan Main Dish RM11. Jumlah RM16.15.

Banding lunch semalam kat Food Court Level 4, KLCC. Nasi putih separuh + sayur taugeh + ayam masak lemak cili padi + air lemon  = RM9.10. kalau tambah buah pun still lagi murah.

Beza RM7.05 tu. Boleh dapat pisang goreng yang luar rangup dan dalam manis + lembik 2 bungkus.

Huh. Baik makan nasi kan?

Performance Appraisal (PA)

Assalamualaikum..

Tajuk ni paling semua orang tak suka, sebab setiap kali hujung tahun itulah perkara yang akan dibuat.

For a management : its a good method to identify the performance of your staff.

For a staff : its the medium on how to present your contributions for a year, on a piece of paper.

The structure is good, the implementation is difficult to weight. As long its has a human intervention, the integrity is always questionable. Kalau orang Melayu kita akan panggil bodek atau kipas. Kalau orang putih, depa panggil ' networking '. Both language, the meaning is mutual, how good you are with your boss, so he or she can represents you well.

In my case, in a big corporate entity, multinaltional plak tu, mustahil tahap dewa if your President knows you. Jadi tinggal la immediate superior yang akan menjadi suara dan wakil.

8 tahun dengan syarikat ni, macam2 gaya bos ada. Ada yang bagus, jadi kawan sampai sekarang. Ada yang so-so, kita say hello when passing bye. Ada plak yang, Ya Allah, kenapalah ko izinkan manusia macam ni hidup dalam dunia. Dugaannya, 3 tahun je dapat boss yang kategori pertama, lagi selebihnya kategori yang terakhir.

Macam2 kena dengan yang satu ni, dari falsely presents performance, ke purposely create ignorance environment, senang cakap...buat kerja sorang2..dia satu hapa tak tolong..tapi nak keputusan from her...to the extend, dia panggil semua orang meeting except you. Oh..ada 1 masa je dia confirm akan ada, masa nak claim keja yang staff buat for her own recognition.

Suami cakap..cukup2 la tu. Bukan tak ada tempat lain offer. Tapi hati masih kuat dengan tempat ni. Complacent mungkin. Takkanlah nak tinggalkan benda yang kita suka dan enjoy, hanya kerana 1 manusia.

Dan hikmahnya, bila ramai menjadi mangsa harga minyak turun naik, kerja saya dihargai bos lagi besar. Dapat promotion, dapat increment, waktu orang lain mungkin hilang kerja. Dan nikmat paling utama, sebelum pergi kerja dapat jumpa anak depan mata, hantar pergi sekolah. Waktu hujung minggu, boleh lah belanja lebih sket bawak keluarga jalan2. Jadi, nikmat Allah yang mana lagi mau kita dustakan?

Moral : sabar. Rezeki kita bukan pada tangan 1 manusia. Allah kan ada.

Cuma sekarang ni, memang tengah google law, boleh tak kalau bunuh bos sebab dia menjadi punca stress dan sakit hati tahap dewa. Boleh tak, appointment dah lama book, dia dah accept, untuk one-to-one session pasal performance, tetiba dia cancel sebab kata bz. Bz dia sekarang adalah , tgh minum2 dengan kawan2 dia.

Ya Allah, bukalah pintu hati manusia seorang ini.

Am sound so negative and sarcastic right? 

Well, do think it adversely. If norm highlighted that perception, there is no stopping for us to act differently. 

I've had an experience working with a marvelous team, and it takes effort and trust from each of the member, with the superior playing the biggest role. 

The tip is : TRUST. Nurture the trust, empower skill, you will received respect in return.

Boss

Assalamualaikum..

Hari tu, ada seorang team member saya bertanya:

'Macam mana akak boleh remain cool & senyum? Kalau saya kat tempat akak, saya dah nangis bawah cubicle'

Saya tak jawab, sengeh saja sambil minum Green Tea Pokka kesukaan. Yang dia tak tahu, kalau saya dah minum air tu, atau Coffee Latte San Fran, maksudnya level stress saya tahap hujung2 ubun. 

Ok Dik, ini jawapan sebenar.

Satu: akak dah tua. More than 13 years working experiences in this corporate (jungle). I had enough of people & drama. Dan kadang2, dah boleh teka jalan cerita & kesudahan. Siap boleh beli popcorn untuk menonton drama itu.

Dua: di mana2 organisasi pun sama. Masa yang kita habiskan dengan teman sekerja lebih lama dari masa dengan keluarga. Jadi, ada masa kita akan mengharapkan suasana kekeluargaan itu. Trust me : its beyond your imaginary wishes dude. You could have a harmony-working-relationship, YES. In heaven. Sebab itu, ramai yang memilih polisi DTA - Dont trust anybody. 

Tiga: pernah dengar kerja teruk? atau boss teruk? dan antara dua ni mana lagi yang paling disaster sebenarnya? pernah dengar People leave a manager, not an organisation? OR Bad Work with a Good Boss is better than Good Work with a Bad Boss? 

Dalam kes saya, bos saya baik. Sangat mempercayai & membantu. Tapi bos ini jauh dipisah Laut China Selatan. Yang ada di KL adalah bos tumpang, yang sejak 4 tahun dahulu, ada sedikit sifat 'unik'. Ironinya untuk sebuah organisasi besar seperti company saya bekerja ini, adalah mustahil untuk Top Management kenal & tahu setiap kerja orang bawahan. Jadi tanggungjawab itu terletak pada bos untuk menjadi suara mewakilkan pekerja ini. 

Rezeki saya, suara itu tidak memihak kepada saya. Dan rezeki saya juga, challenges saya sewaktu kerja adalah sangat banyak. Banyak. 

Untuk sesetengah orang, akan lama mengangkat kaki. Bukan tiada tawaran lain. Ada. Bukan tiada perasaan, ada. Tapi saya memilih untuk stay & bersabar. Kenapa?

Rezeki saya Allah bagi sudah banyak. Banyak sangat. Daripada keluarga yang baik, keluarga mentua yang sangat supportive, hinggalah ke anak2 yang sihat dan pandai & suami yang sentiasa ada. Jika Allah menduga saya hanya sedikit begini, kenapa saya harus mengalah? Jika Allah benarkan suara itu bercakap dusta, percayalah, Allah dengar. Dan dari pengalaman, apabila bersabar, lebih banyak rezeki yang Allah bagi.

Jadi Dik, itu jawapan akak. Biarlah bos buat apa sahaja. Percaya pada Allah. DIA ada. Sentiasa.

Good Service Tax

Sebab ramai yang bertanya, dan diri sendiri pun tak berapa faham mulanya. Jadi, terpaksalah mencari info dan duduk bersama yang pakar.

Small Action - Big Impact

Always, 

we think on big actions or big contributions that we could do to make a difference

Often, 

we feels lowly dowdy when we compare with other person that we THINK has more money to give and to spoil

Never,

we recognize that life is actually simple

that it needs is only a small words of motivation

or a simple act of appreciation

or most of the time, you don't even have to give out on anything

only a willingness to sit and to listen

Is it too much to ask?

So buddy, let's start small.
